On February 28, 2016, the Dolby Theatre of Los Angeles hosted the 88th Academy Awards ceremony, better known worldwide as The Oscars. The ‘crème de la crème’ of Hollywood, the movie world’s Mecca, gathered together in this annual celebration to reward the best cinematic productions of 2015, which turned out to be very prolific with
excellent movies such as ‘The Revenant,’ ‘Spotlight,’ ‘The Big Short’ or ‘The Hateful Eight.’

The red carpet became, once again, the most glamorous place where such a ‘constellation of stars’ could be admired at their best. Pretty faces, fancy dresses and a lot of charm went hand-in-hand in a night in which flaws are hardly ever found.

Nevertheless, even the best-looking celebrities can’t escape problems. Beyond such an aura of perfection, actors, actresses, singers, producers and filmmakers have to deal with daily issues that can push them over the edge. Obviously, diseases usually stand in their way as well, and sinusitis may be one of them. Coping with nasal congestion, facial pain or loss of smell isn’t just limited to the common people and, if you don’t think so, take a look at the following list of celebrities who at some point suffered from sinusitis.

Kim Kardashian

The American personality and model Kim Kardashian, best known for her appearance on the reality television show ‘Keeping Up with the Kardashians’, suffered from a sinus infection last December, while waiting for her second son’s arrival. “37 WEEKS x SINUS INFECTION x FLU”, she posted on twitter. Fortunately, she got over it before welcoming her new baby, Saint West, into the world.

Beyoncé

The Texan singer, songwriter, producer and actress admitted that she struggled with sinusitis while recording the song ‘XO’, from the album ‘Beyoncé’ (2013). Despite being sick, she didn’t change the vocals as she liked the outcome. “I was sick with a bad sinus infection. I recorded it in a few minutes just as a demo and decided to keep the vocals. I lived with most of the songs for a year and never re-recorded the demo vocals. I really loved the imperfection”.

Wil Wheaton

You may have seen him in television series such as ‘Star Trek: The Next Generation’ or ‘The Big Bang Theory’, but what you probably don’t know is that this Californian actor, blogger and writer suffers from an autoimmune disease that has caused him lots of problems, including many sinus infections. At some point, he even posted a recipe to fight off sinusitis on his website.

“Clever girl, sinusitis. You had me fooled… but you gave yourself away yesterday with the heavy chest, body aches, and the general fatigue, and now I can fight back!”, he wrote.

Elizabeth Taylor

Who hasn’t heard of Elizabeth Taylor? Such a Hollywood legend, starring in classic movies like ‘Cleopatra’ or ‘Cat on a hot tin roof’ battled with many health issues, especially respiratory problems, throughout her life. In fact, such afflictions even ‘hit’ her during the shooting of certain movies, like ‘Life with Father’.

According to ‘Liz: An Intimate Biography of Elizabeth Taylor’, by C. David Heymann, “she had continual sinus problems and constantly frequented the set medic”, while participating in that movie.

Ashley Judd

This actress and activist, who we could recently see as Natalie Prior in the movie ‘Divergent’ and its sequel, ‘Insurgent’, needed a special treatment based on steroids to overcome a bad sinus infection in 2012. By then, she was on a promotional trail for the show ‘Missing’ and couldn’t skip any appearances in the media, so she ended up having a heavy dose of medication to do so. And since her face got ‘putty’, rumors surfaced that she had had plastic surgery…

Ozzy Osbourne

The lead vocalist of the rock band ‘Black Sabbath’, Ozzy Osbourne, was forced to postpone a concert in Vancouver last month due to an “extreme sinusitis”. By early February, his symptoms faded and he could go back on tour.

Clearly, sinusitis even disrupts some icons’ lives, and this is a reminder that we should never take this illness lightly.
